Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger.  In Gig Harbor, this is an annual event organized by the Altrusa Club and Foundation of Gig Harbor to raise funds for feeding children in our community who may otherwise experience hunger during the summer.

Did you know that 1 in every 4 children in the Peninsula School District qualify for free or reduced price lunches, but during the summer there is no summer lunch program to fill the gap?  In 2016 Altrusa of Gig Harbor sponsored our first Empty Bowls event which provided funds for over 4,000 summer lunches for 800 kids from our school district who were at risk of going hungry.

Purchase a handmade bowl by a local artist and enjoy a simple meal of delicious soup from one of our premier Gig Harbor restaurants. Take your bowl home as a reminder of the empty bowls in our community.

Thank you to all who helped make Empty Bowls 2020 a huge success -Our community - working together

Empty Bowls is an international effort to fight hunger in local communities, but no funds from our event will be spent beyond our local school district boundaries.

Our local community coming together to fill a local need.
