Boys & Girls Club

For such a small group of women to commit to raising such a large amount was daunting, but Altrusa Gig Harbor enthusiastically embraced the challenge.  Primarily by hosting a Holiday Tour or Homes, our goal was met.

In October 2015 Altrusa Gig Harbor celebrated the final $10,000 payment to the Boys & Girls Club with a "Mortgage Burning Party.”

Altrusa Gig Harbor is now partnering with the Cheney Family Branch of the Gig Harbor Boys & Girls Club in hosting "Empty Bowls" to create a fund to provide summer lunches to some of the 1 in 4 children who receive food support during school months, but none during the summer.

A Shiny New Community Kitchen

In 2001 when the regional Boys and Girls Club organization selected Gig Harbor as their next location, Altrusa Foundation of Gig Harbor was one of the first local groups to support the concept. The Foundation encouraged an expanded vision of the club that included seniors and community organizations, and spoke on behalf of the concept to local planning and governing decision-makers. To underscore its support, Altrusa Foundation committed to raising $100,000 to equip the Gig Harbor Boys & Girls Club kitchen that would serve meals to students, seniors, and community organizations.
