Peninsula Youth Orchestra (PYO)

Scholarships for Music

Today, with nearly 100 students learning and playing at four orchestra levels, and some of their graduates in highly acclaimed music schools country-wide, Peninsula Youth Orchestra still looks to Altrusa Foundation for help with their scholarship and activities dollars. Altrusa Foundation is glad to help.

When Peninsula students with a talent for music and a love of orchestra could not feed their passion within the school arena, a few of their intrepid parents asked Altrusa to help them start a teaching orchestra that would fill the need. Since 1999, hundreds of young musicians, some with help from Altrusa Foundation-funded scholarships, have learned to play stringed instruments in PYO.

In addition to $2,000 in scholarships per year, in 2014 the Altrusa Foundation presented a $900 check to the PYO so that they could replace their music stands.

Altrusa volunteers serve drinks and cookies provided by PYO parents at each concert.
