I was a nurse for 30 years and most recently an independent bookstore owner for 12 years in Seattle. As much as I loved being a bookstore owner my business partner and I made the decision that it was time to retire and we sold the store. It also seemed a good time to leave the busy city life and make a move. My husband and I decided that Gig Harbor would be the ideal place to spend our retirement years. We moved here last year and love it! I met several members of Altrusa at a neighborhood holiday party. I was impressed with how involved the group is locally and what has been accomplished with a small group of very motivated, energetic, and fun ladies from all walks of life. I am also involved as a Hospice Volunteer for Franciscan Hospice. We have 2 grandchildren that live in Ohio and 2 that live in Colorado. In spite of the distance we get together often which is a priority for all of us!

Sue Scanlon

Sue Scanlon 170wMember

Sue's involvement with Altrusa started soon after her family moved from Australia, when her daughter was offered a scholarship (funded by Altrusa) to play cello with the Peninsula Youth Orchestra. Several years later I was delighted to accept the position as Executive Director at the Orchestra, which fit in well with my continuing career with Non-Profits. After spending a couple of years in Pittsburgh, I am glad to be "home" and once again involved with this dynamic group of women.
